Celebrating Holy Spirit

Did you know that this Sunday, May 31, 2020, is Pentecost? Pentecost literally means 50 in Greek. “It refers to the festival celebrated on the fiftieth day after Passover, also known as the "Feast of Weeks" and the "Feast of 50 days" in rabbinic tradition.” Believers in Jesus know it as the day when the Holy Spirit fell on the Jerusalem disciples of Christ with tongues of fire. I like to call it Holy Spirit’s birthday and that’s how we celebrate and honor the event.

We make it a fun time with special foods like a fruit salad that represent the 9 fruits of the Spirit in Gal 5:22-23. “22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” For example we use strawberries for love, since they are the popular fruit for Valentine’s Day. For patience or self-control we use pomegranates, since they take patience and self-control to peel and eat them. How about an apple for goodness or faithfulness? Have fun with your family picking out which fruit corresponds with each fruit of the Spirit. My daughter and I did this together, as well as, planning out other menu items and table decor. It’s been a fun and enjoyable experience like Easter/Passover or Christmas.

We also reflect on the whole story of Pentecost found in Acts 1 and 2. In preparation of this weekend, the last couple of weeks we’ve read together the first chapter of the four gospels, and then the last chapter of each of the four gospels. Every time we read these passages we glean something new. It’s amazing and refreshing to the soul, and gives a good backdrop for the story in Acts.

In the video below, Dr. Lance Wallnau gives an interesting and inspiring current end time perspective on how to prepare for Pentecost. At minute 22:00 he talks about a great awakening that will be coming at this time. His prophetic word is based on Zechariah 3-4. He prophecies that there will be a four fold manifestation of the visitation of the Holy Spirit this Pentecost for those who are listening. He says we will be able to, 1. See God’s Face, 2. Hear God’s Voice, 3. Understand God’s Will, and 4. Be His Witnesses as tongues of fire or words we speak. Thank you Lord Jesus for ascending to heaven so that the Holy Spirit could be poured on your people.

However you choose to celebrate Holy Spirit’s coming, may you have eyes to see, ears to hear, a heart to understand, and a voice to speak. Flowing with the Holy Spirit is a great experience in which you will be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name! Go forth bold, blessed, and brilliant. Subscribe and comment below.
