The Amazing History of Christmas
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Christmas? The bible doesn’t say exactly when Jesus was born, but we know he wasn’t born on Dec. 25. Why do we hang stockings and give gifts? Why do we put lights on an evergreen tree? How did Santa Claus and his reindeer, and the Twas The Night Before Christmas poem come about anyway? Hasn’t Christmas become too commercialized? The PragerU video below will help answer those questions.
Personally, I love Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday. I love singing Christmas songs, eating holiday foods, and looking at all the lights around town. My daughter and I enjoy decorating her candy cane themed tree and listening to Christmas music. There is a festive feeling in the air. It’s a time for family, food, fun, and focus on the amazing, miraculous, and glorious story of Christ’s birth. Isaiah, Matthew, and Luke all give details about the birth of Jesus. “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Of course Immanuel means God is with us.
When we watch the news and see all the tragedies, conflicts, and disasters, it can be hard to see that God is with us. But He is, and He promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Deut. 31:6 says, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” William Federer, Author of the book There Really Is A Santa Claus, and the speaker in the video below, summed up the holiday beautifully. “In a world that feels so divided, Christmas still unites us. For that, we should all be grateful.”
This Christmas season, may you sense the unity, and feel that God is with you. It is the season to be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name! Therefore, go forth blessed, bold, and brilliant!
