Experiencing True Sabbath Rest
Many times over the years I’ve asked God what He wanted to say to me. Almost like a broken record He’d say, “Be still.” In fact, He said it so much that at times I’d get very frustrated with Him. How do I do that? What does it mean to “Be Still”? Furthermore, what does it mean to experience true Sabbath rest?
Heb 4:11-12 says, “Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
It took me awhile to figure it out, but I finally realized that He was trying to teach me how to find rest for my soul (mind, will, and emotions). And yes it took effort to work through and find rest for those negative thoughts and feelings. Eventually, however, the rest came and it felt so awesome! God and I would rejoice together. Then, after awhile, He would reveal another area of my soul that needed healing and rest - old, buried, and hidden hurts and fears that needed The Peace (Jesus) that passes understanding Phil 4:7. It’s been a labor of love but with wonderful and empowering results. And, it’s an ongoing journey.
As a fifth generation Sabbatarian, I’ve understood the importance of the Creation Sabbath and have kept the “day” all my life. As wonderful as that has been, there’s more. I believe God wants us to not only keep the day of rest Gen 2:2, but also experience the inner rest of the soul Heb 4:11.
This is why I wanted to share the videos below. In the first video, Graham Cooke shares a humorous and insightful teaching of how to “labor into His rest.” The second video is a beautiful prayer session by Jim and Pat Banks. Their prayers will bring healing and rest to the traumas of your life. I found it very helpful.
May you rest this Creation Sabbath day, to listen, learn, and experience the true Sabbath rest for your soul. As you do, you will be so blessed and in turn be a blessing to others In Jesus Name!
