My Mother's Day Present

Last Sunday, May 3rd, 2020, my son JJ graduated from Andrews University with a BSE in Mechanical Engineering Cum Laude. He calls his class the “corona class”! His online graduation was weird and anticlimactic, yet rather relaxing in the end. It certainly was not what we had planned for or expected. But, I’m so proud of him and wanted to share his accomplishment with you. What a wonderful Mother’s Day gift for me. Here’s why.

Ever since JJ was a little boy, I prayed over him Luke 2:52. “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.” I’m thrilled to report that God has answered my prayer on all accounts. God is so faithful! JJ certainly grew in wisdom with this degree, his stature is 6’4”, and he has found favor with God and man.

While millions have been laid off due to COVID-19, JJ starts his new job in Mechanical Engineering this coming Monday. How he got the job as an intern is a long story of God’s direction and favor. We’re so grateful for this blessing, and the favor he has been shown by the company. From what I understand, he’s the only college graduate that they have hired right out of school. Wow, I’m shaking my head in amazement and gratitude!

After homeschooling for 15 years two children that had learning challenges, I’m awed and amazed that they both graduated with high honors. My daughter Heather graduated from Andrews University in May 7, 2017 with a BFA in Photography Magna Cum Laude. At age 10 she was assessed with severe dyslexia, and JJ at age 8 was legally blind in his left eye. How do you teach when reading is such an issue? It’s by the grace of God and much prayer, sweat, and tears. To read more of Heather’s story and see her 20 photo Sr. Thesis “A Stupid Brillianceclick here, and to see some of her adventures click here. The verse I prayed over Heather everyday was 2 Tim 1:7. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

So, I share my story with all you young mom’s to encourage you and cheer you on. One day you will look back and see your prayers answered too. Investing in your children can be, at times, an overwhelming and grueling marathon. But, then there are moments like this where all you can do is cry tears of joy. Your children are worth it and you are to be praised. “Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:” Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:28, 30

Happy Mother’s Day to mom’s of all ages. May you anchor your life in God’s word and speak it over your children everyday. As you do, you will be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name! Go forth bold, blessed, and brilliant. Subscribe and comment below.
