Nature Therapy

Last weekend we celebrated our birthdays at a cabin located in the Manistee National Forest. Next to the cabin was a small river that had a gentle flowing sound. The woods, river, cabin, and firepit all culminated together to create the perfect environment for some “Nature Therapy”.

My family and I have had many blessings this past year, in spite of the lockdowns and election upheaval. We do our best to stay positive while keeping abreast of the latest news. But honestly, the chaos can be very draining. That’s why we felt so blessed to get away to experience some “Nature Therapy”. Basically, nature therapy is taking time in nature to restore one’s soul. It’s taking a break from the cultural war chaos, and spending time outdoors with God to bring health to the mind.

As I sat in the swing, located next to the cabin overlooking the river, I thought about Psalm 23:2, “He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.” God’s goodness shown in the beauty of nature refreshed me and brought health to my body, soul (mind, will, and emotions), and spirit. What a great way to celebrate another year of life!

During our church time, we each took turns reading a verse in Psalm 23. We then talked about what stood out to us in the chapter. Most of our discussion revolved around the word “surely”. “Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23:6

We looked up the definition of surely and it simply means with assurance or confidence, in other words, without doubt. Therefore, without any doubt, God’s goodness and unfailing love is pursuing you all the days of your life; and by receiving it you are living in the house of the Lord now, and can continue to live with Him forever!! That, my friend, is awesome and rejuvenating news.

So, take a break today from the cares of your world and get some “Nature Therapy”. Experience a growing understanding of God’s goodness and love that is pursuing you and be refreshed.
