Merry Christmas! - Part 2/3

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you have an awesome day! Blessings and positive declarations to you and your family on this day of celebration!

In this Christmas series, I’ve been talking about the things that stood out to me while reading the expanded story of Christ’s birth in the first two chapters of Luke. Luke 1-2 In Merry Christmas - Part 1/3, what stood out to me the most were the apparent emotions of what Gabriel said to Zechariah and Mary. Reading between the lines, it seems his attitude shifted or changed according to how Zechariah and Mary responded. Click here to read more about it.

In today’s blog, Luke 2:24 stood out to me, “So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” Wow two turtles doves, that’s just like the song the Twelve Days of Christmas. That song then reminded me of the adapted version by First Call titled The New Twelve Days of Christmas. Instead of the line “a partridge in a pear tree”, they sang “and a child born to set the world free.” (Click on the song titles to listen to the songs on YouTube.)

That line reminded me of the line in the song “O Holy Night” that says, “in His name all oppression shall cease”. There are so many people in the world today who feel oppressed, but the good news is that the baby Jesus was born to set the world free. This promise is recorded in Isaiah 61:1 and Luke 4:16-19.

“16 When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. 17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written:

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released,
    that the blind will see,
that the oppressed will be set free,
19     and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.”

What an awesome promise! What wonderful news! My heart rejoices because I’ve experienced the freedom that the Truth brought so many years ago. We don’t know exactly when Jesus was born, but we do celebrate that “O Holy Night” and the fact that He was born to set the world free.

In the video below, Voctave, an a cappella group, sings this powerful song featuring Tiffany Coburn. It is my new favorite version. These singers are so talented and professional. I’m always amazed and blessed by their vocal abilities. It will be so fun, one day soon, to sing with the angels in heaven!

May you experience the freedom that the baby Jesus brought to earth, and rejoice on this special celebration day, so that you will be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name!
