He Gave Some This, Some That

Ephesians 4:11-13 says, “Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.”  (NLT)

Many ask, what are the five fold gifts, and why should I care about the five fold gifts?  Let me ask a question in response.  Is the Body of Christ today mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ?  Do you think we still have a ways to go?  If so, then that’s why you should care.  See Danny Silk’s funny and insightful explanation of the 5 fold gifts on YouTube channel Bethel.TV Redding.

Here is a basic definition for each gift based on Danny Silk's video.  Most believers will be dominate in a couple of the gifts.  However, I feel that most believers will operate in each gift at one time or another on their life's journey.

Pastors - Love ministering to people and the Church Community
Teachers - Love teaching the Word of God
Evangelists - Love telling others about Jesus and seeing them saved
Prophets - Love sharing what’s happening in the spirit realm
Apostles - Love building Heaven’s Blueprint/Kingdom here on Earth

Remember that gifts and titles are two very different things.  For example the title Pastor has been way over used and confused many people. It has become a catch all title, like Pastor of Music, Pastor of Youth Ministries, Pastor of Finance etc.  It's not that it's wrong, per se.  I just think these titles have created a misunderstanding of the characteristics of the gifts Christ gave.  Don't worry about the titles.  Do your best to discover what gifts Christ has given you! One resource I found helpful is Danny Silk's book Culture of Honor.

May you see yourself as Christ sees you today.  May you be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name!
