Celebrating the Cherry!!
Before February is over, and we continue with Part 3 of the challenging Social Justice series, I wanted to take a foodie break and highlight a current calendar event. You may not have known this, but February is National Cherry Month. Why is February called National Cherry Month? Click here to find out more about it, and the many health benefits of cherries under the Fruit Education link.
No matter the reasons, take the time to enjoy this amazing and delicious fruit. Below, I listed a couple of my favorite Michigan companies that produce cherry products. If you didn't know, Michigan grows the most tart cherries in the US, according to the USDA. If you're close to one of these stores while traveling, splurge a bit and savor the sweet!
Grand Traverse Pie Company makes the best pies!! I'm not typically a pie lover, but this place takes the cake! My mouth is watering thinking about their Cherry Crumb Pie! Aren't I fortunate that one of their restaurants are located in my hometown of Kalamazoo, MI! Or, maybe not LOL!
Cherry Republic's main campus location is in Glen Arbor, MI. It is a vacation destination with loads of amazing cherry products, gardens, and restaurant. We love many of their products, but at the top of our list is a really cold Boom Chugga Lugga Cherry Soda on a hot summer day! Aaaaahh!!
American Spoon carries a variety of jams, jellies, sauces, toppings, etc. all made from foods grown in Michigan. One of my favorites is their Sour Cherry Preserves. Yummy! It's really fun visiting their stores because you can sample many of their products.
If you really want to have a cherry overload experience, save the date for the National Cherry Festival June 30-July 7, 2018 in Traverse City, Michigan. It's a beautiful setting, located right on the lake shore, and is a fun family event.
May you "Taste and see that the Lord is good." (Psalm 34:8), and may that goodness bless you and others In Jesus Name!
