Fasting - Subtraction AND Addition!! Part 2/2

In Part 1/2, we discussed fasting with the focus on rebooting our mind and spirit.  In Part 2/2, we are focusing on rebooting our bodies for increased health and healing.  However, no matter your fasting focus, every aspect of your being will benefit.  In fact, fasting has blessed mankind throughout the ages..

As you know, fasting is an ancient practice dating back to Moses when he fasted 40 days and nights at the top of Mount Sinai when he went to meet God.  Further down the historical timeline, the ancient Greeks were also known to practice fasting.  Fast forward to the colonial days, and later in the 19th and 20th centuries, and hear what they were saying back in those days.

Benjamin Franklin is quoted saying,

“Fasting is the greatest remedy – the physician within”. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), one of America’s founding fathers and renowned for wide knowledge in many areas once wrote of fasting “The best of all medicines is resting and fasting”.

Health Reformer Ellen G. White, who lived from 1827-1915, wrote in her book, The Ministry of Healing p. 235, the following quote.

"In many cases of sickness, the very best remedy is for the patient to fast for a meal or two, that the overworked organs of digestion may have an opportunity to rest. A fruit diet for a few days has often brought great relief to brain workers. Many times a short period of entire abstinence from food, followed by simple, moderate eating, has led to recovery through nature's own recuperative effort. An abstemious diet for a month or two would convince many sufferers that the path of self-denial is the path to health."

So what are the health gurus saying now that we are in the 21st century?  Well, amazingly enough, they are saying the same thing!  However, the cool thing is that now there is hard science to back up the claims.  Below are four health enthusiasts who share their discoveries.  I found their information encouraging and inspirational, and wanted to share it with you.

Fasting has always been a benefit to me, and I look forward to exploring more types of fasting in the future.  I hope you do too!  And remember, fasting may be a form of subtraction and addition, however, the outcome is multiplied favor.

May God fill your life with good things, so that your youth in body, mind, and spirit, be renewed like the eagles!  May that renewed youthfullness bring you and others abundant blessings this new year In Jesus Name!
