Racism
Racism, is it the color of our skin or the content of our character that matters? Martin Luther King Jr. in his 1963 "I Have A Dream" speech said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
Over the past few days, the world has been watching the horrific and tragic events of the riots and Hurricane Harvey. And, yet again the truth has been revealed. It is the content of our character that matters. There are the hate groups of Antifa, BLM, KKK, Neo-Nazis, etc who "kill, steal, and destroy" as it says in John 10:10. On the other hand, there are those who love and help others no matter what the skin color is, gender, age or ethnicity.
Paul says in Ephesians 4:1-6, "Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God. 2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. 3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. 4 For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. 5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all."
When discerning or judging a group or person, it is always good to look at the "roots" and the fruits" of their behavior. In some situations this takes time, whereas other times it is instantly obvious like these rescue pictures. Be encouraged today. Even though there are hate groups manifesting Satan's kingdom, there are heroes who are less visible, but show up when tragedies occur and demonstrate God's kingdom.
Examine your own heart today. Are you a lover or a hater? It really only boils down to two choices. How do you think about other people who are different from you? Does it really matter what a person's skin color is, or does it matter how they think? May God give us the wisdom and maturity to love others as we would want to be loved. Sometimes that is really hard to do. But when possible, let's celebrate the beauty of our physical and cultural differences, and be united in the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ as Ephesians 4 suggests. Today, may you be filled with the love of God so that you can be blessed and be a blessing In Jesus Name!
